Easy Christmas Trees Compared: Pop-Up, Slimline, Metal and LED Trees at Coopers of Stortford

Three Coopers of Stortford Pop-Up Christmas Trees in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft decorated with red bows and gold baubles

Not every home has room for a big real tree, and not everyone wants to spend an afternoon untangling lights or hoovering needles until February. The good news is that the artificial tree has moved on a long way. Some now arrive already decorated and simply pop up, some fold flat into a slim box, and others are made from metal or LEDs and never need decorating at all.

Coopers of Stortford, the Hertfordshire retailer known for problem-solving products, has a big Christmas shop with several of these easy options. We have picked six of the most practical and compared them on size, set-up, power and price, so you can find the right one for a small flat, a busy family home or a front garden.

Pop-Up Christmas Tree: Decorated in Minutes

This is the tree in our main picture, and it is the closest thing to a traditional full tree in this list. Coopers says it could not imagine an easier way to set up a Christmas tree: you lift the spiral coil of branches over the central pole, pop the top on and plug it in. It arrives complete with warm LED lights, red bows and gold baubles, so there is nothing else to buy.

There are three heights. The 122cm tree has 50 lights and 63 decorations, the 152cm version has 80 lights and 78 decorations, and the 183cm tree has 140 lights and 106 decorations. All come with four detachable feet, a mains transformer and a 3m cable. Prices were £99.99, £129.99 and £159.99, each £20 below the previous price. When January comes you reverse the process and it packs away flat. A delivery supplement applies to this item, so check the total at checkout.

Pre-Lit Pop Up Slimline Tree: Best for Small Spaces

Pre-lit pop-up slimline Christmas trees in three heights beside a window

If floor space is tight, the slimline pop-up tree is the one to look at. Coopers calls it possibly the easiest festive tree ever. It is very light and arrives fully decorated with baubles, bows and micro lights. You attach the stand to the central pole and pull the tree up, with no tools needed, and it folds flat again for storage.

The 4ft tree has 20 baubles, 20 bows and 40 micro light tips, the 5ft has 25 of each with 50 light tips, and the 6ft has 30 of each with 60 light tips. It runs on three AA batteries, which are not included, so you do not need a plug socket nearby. At £49.99, £59.99 and £69.99 it is also the cheapest full-height tree here. Metal Xmas Tree: A Stand for Your Favourite Baubles

Floor-standing black metal Christmas tree with star top decorated with red and gold baubles

Some people love their bauble collection more than the tree itself. Coopers’ metal Christmas tree is a sculptural frame with a traditional star on top and four scrolled feet, designed to show off your own decorations. It is a lifetime tree, so there is no mess, no needles and nothing to water, and it needs only simple self-assembly each year.

Table-top metal Christmas tree with scrolled feet and red and gold baubles

There are two versions. The table-top tree is 48cm tall and 31cm wide and costs £29.99, which makes it ideal for a sideboard or windowsill. The floor-standing tree is 164cm tall and 66.7cm wide and costs £99.99. Baubles are not included, and the bare frame also looks good on its own in a minimalist room.

    60cm Potted Fibre-Optic Tree: A Table-Top Showstopper

60cm potted fibre-optic Christmas tree glowing beside a fireplace

For a desk, a care home room or a small corner, this 60cm fibre-optic tree is a nostalgic choice. The tips, baubles and stars slowly change colour, and it is ready to display straight from the box. It is battery-operated with a simple on and off switch, so you can place it anywhere. It needs three AA batteries, measures 60cm high and 35cm wide, and costs £29.99.

LED Birch Tree: Indoors or Out

Light-up LED birch tree with warm white lights in a garden

A light-up birch tree gives a softer, more modern look than a classic green tree. Coopers’ artificial birch is covered in warm white LEDs spread through the branches, and it can stand inside or outdoors. The 1.2m version has 48 LEDs and costs £27.99, while the 1.8m version has 96 LEDs and costs £39.99. Both look good in a hallway or on a patio. Browse light-up trees at Coopers.

Smart LED Tree: Control It From Your Phone

1.5m RGB LED smart Christmas tree with star top lit up on a garden path at night

For a front garden or porch, the 1.5m smart tree is a cone of 202 RGB LEDs with a star on top. You change the colours and effects with the included remote control or a smartphone app. It is weather-resistant, comes with four ground stakes for outdoor use and runs from a 2m USB lead. Note that the USB plug adapter is not included, so you will need a suitable one. It was reduced from £37.99 to £30.39 at the time of writing.

    How to Choose

    • Measure the space first. A slimline tree suits a narrow corner, while the pop-up tree needs more floor room, especially the 183cm version.
    • Think about power. Battery trees can go anywhere, while mains and USB trees need a socket nearby.
    • Decide if you want it ready-decorated. The pop-up trees come dressed, but the metal tree is a blank canvas for your own baubles.
    • For outdoor use, choose a tree described as suitable for outdoors, such as the LED birch tree or the smart LED tree.

    Conclusion

For a classic look with almost no effort, the Pop-Up Christmas Tree is hard to beat. If space or budget is tight, the slimline pop-up tree gives you a full-height decorated tree from £49.99. Bauble collectors will love the metal tree, the fibre-optic tree is a cheerful table-top choice, and the birch and smart LED trees bring the festive glow outside.
